Kazuhide Takahama

Kazuhide Takahama (1930–2010) was a Japanese designer and architect who spent much of his career in Italy, becoming a key figure in the dialogue between Eastern aesthetics and Italian design. Born in Nobeoka and graduated in Architecture from the University of Tokyo, he moved to Milan in 1957. There he developed important collaborations with Italian companies, particularly with Cassina, with whom he worked for over forty years, creating some of his most iconic projects, including the Tulu, Suzanne and Naeko seating pieces. He also collaborated with prestigious names in Italian design such as Simon International and Gavina. His style, characterized by essential lines, formal elegance and attention to materials, combines the Japanese sensitivity for simplicity with the Italian manufacturing tradition. His works are now considered significant examples of international design of the post-World War II period.
