Giuseppe Ostuni
Biographie du designer
Giuseppe Ostuni was an Italian designer and entrepreneur best known as the founder of Oluce, established in 1945 and considered the oldest Italian lighting design company still active today.
During the 1950s and 1960s, he played a major role in shaping modern Italian lighting design through a combination of technical innovation, elegant minimalism, and functional aesthetics. Under his direction, Oluce became a creative platform for some of the most important Italian designers of the postwar era, including Joe Colombo, Vico Magistretti, Marco Zanuso, and Tito Agnoli.
Ostuni’s own designs are known for their clean geometric lines, lightweight structures, and innovative use of materials such as metal and perspex, often anticipating the Space Age aesthetic of the 1960s.
Beyond his work as a designer, his legacy is closely tied to his role in promoting Italian modern design internationally through Oluce and collaborations with major cultural institutions and exhibitions such as the Milan Triennale.
