Roberto Barbieri

Roberto Barbieri (Milano, 1942 – 2012) was an Italian architect and designer. After earning his degree in Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano in 1969, he began developing projects in the fields of design, architecture, and visual communication. In 1970 he took part in the exhibition “The living space for the home of the 1970s”, promoted by the Ente del Mobile di Lissone in collaboration with the Facoltà di Architettura del Politecnico di Milano, presenting innovative proposals for furnishing and contemporary living. From the 1980s onward, he focused his work on industrial design and art direction, collaborating with important companies in the furniture sector. From 1994 he established an ongoing relationship with Zanotta, contributing to the development of numerous projects that consolidated its prestige in the landscape of contemporary Italian design. Among his best-known creations is the Lia chair, designed for Zanotta, appreciated for its essential forms, elegance of proportions, and the refined design research that characterizes his work. Over the course of his career, Barbieri was able to combine architectural rigor and aesthetic sensitivity, leaving a significant contribution to contemporary Italian design.
