General Sales Terms and ConditionsThese terms and conditions of sale apply to all adult customers with the right to sign and to all products sold via Modernista.ch and or to advertisements published on third-party platforms and third-party websites.
Brands, signatures and labelsModernista only sells authentic items from the past and original second-hand design objects. However, we cannot guarantee that every item sold will have the original label or a brand marks, as the manufacturers or designers did not always sign the items produced in the past. The absence of a reference does not necessarily result in a lower value of the item.
Prices and discountsThe selling price depends on the rarity of the object, the age, the conditions, the market price or the method of despatch. Our prices are usually fixed and competitive, not always negotiable.
Condition of the objectMost antique and vintage items naturally display the marks and patina of time. Our staff, responsible for sourcing each piece, carefully select only the finest items. They thoroughly inspect every object and, whenever possible, carry out appropriate conservative restoration or reconditioning to enhance its value while preserving its authenticity. Any defects, dents, breakages, or faults are scrupulously documented and immediately communicated to the customer before the sale is finalized.
Shipping and deliveryWe ship our items within Switzerland via Swiss Post using the Economy method, with the fragile and signature options included, ensuring that the package is not left unattended. Shipping costs range between CHF 25 and CHF 48 and include packaging materials and preparation. Delivery times are typically within 5–7 business days after payment confirmation. For in-person deliveries within Switzerland, costs depend on the distance and range between CHF 60 and CHF 250. Delivery times are 10–15 business days after payment confirmation. For multiple-item purchases, shipping is charged only once and the highest shipping cost among the purchased items is applied.

Shipping damagesIn case of any damage caused by the carrier, please report the issue immediately to our customer support via email. The support email address is provided on the invoice received by the customer. If possible and visible, the damage should also be reported to the postal worker upon delivery.
Shipping abroadIn addition, not all items can be shipped abroad, in particular furniture and larger items must be collected by the buyer. For deliveries outside Switzerland and the Eurozone, import duties may be charged to the customer.
Special packagingThe Modernista shop charges packaging costs for fragile items that require appropriate and specific packaging with a customised box, bubble wrap, paper, sponge and filling material. The packaging costs are usually included to shipping price.
Insurance and Additional ServicesAll purchases shipped within Switzerland and abroad include additional services such as Signature and Fragile. All shipped items are insured up to 1,500 CHF. Higher insurance can be requested by the buyer before shipment for an additional cost of 10 CHF.
PaymentsTo make everything smooth and easy for everyone, items must be paid for in advance to avoid unnecessary trips, extra costs, or last-minute price negotiations. We accept bank transfers and Postfinance for your convenience. Since several people might be interested in the same item, we can only hold it for the time needed to complete payment. Payment must be made within 5 business days of receiving our invoice.
Import taxes for deliveries or shipping outside SwitzerlandWe are not responsible for fees that the buyer has to pay in the form of taxes or customs duties.
Retention of goodsThe goods remain the property of Modernista until the full payment.
Orders CancellationCustomers may cancel their order at any time before the item has been shipped or physically collected. The status of the order can be checked at any moment in the “Orders” section of the customer’s account. Cancellations do not require the intervention of the Modernista staff: customers can manage this process independently by clicking the dedicated button and providing a reason for the cancellation. In case of cancellation, round-trip shipping costs as well as delivery costs will not be refunded.
Order Cancellation for Third-Party Private SalesFor products listed in the Private Sales section and sold by private vendors, cancellations may be made at any time, provided that payment has not yet been completed by the buyer. Unfortunately, cancellation requests submitted after payment cannot be accepted, as these products are not part of Modernista’s inventory. An order may, however, be cancelled if the item arrives damaged or shows defects not mentioned on the product page. Please note that every product purchased from third-party sellers through Modernista undergoes a thorough condition check and an authenticity verification by our staff at the time of collection from the seller.
Returns and refundsWe accept returns within 10 working days of delivery and only for items that do not match the images published on the Modernista listings or shop website. In this case, should a shipping error occur, the returned item will be refunded within 1 working week. If the parcel is lost during shipping, the amount paid will be refunded in full. In exceptional cases, for example in the event of an incorrect purchase by the customer, we can refund the amount paid by the buyer minus the shipping costs to and from the customer. Modernista is not a retailer of brands such as Cassina, Vitra, Knoll etc. All items sold in the Modernista shop are second-hand items. For this reason, we ask the potential buyer to evaluate their purchase based on the dimensions of the object, the colour, the conditions and, if suitable for the use in question.

WarrantyThe item sold is sold in the condition in which it is found. As it is a used, vintage or antique item, no guarantee is given. The pictures or videos of the object of purchase are part of these conditions of sale.
Use of customer dataCustomer informations as well email, address etc. is used solely for Invoice, payment confirmation and to ship the item. Customer data is and remains confidential.
Messages and confirmationsFor each purchase, the Modernista shop sends the customer an e-mail with an attached invoice, a payment confirmation and a dispatch confirmation.
